Carlingford House

Client: Private
Date: 2017
Stage: Development Application

A new double garage to ground level and contemporary open plan granny-flat, second living room, home office and home classroom addition to a freestanding weatherboard bungalow. Our client’s required a flexible space that could adapt to their changing life circumstances.

The new addition has a north facing terrace and pergola that borrows light over the hip of the existing house. Red Corten Steel cladding to the garage and white timber privacy screen in gable form to the front facade borrow traditional colours and forms from the red brick base and white weatherboard cladding to the existing bungalow to create a synergy between the old and the new.

The entry is relocated in between the old and the new to create an entry that can combine the spaces or maintain separation. A change in level and carefully located windows maintain privacy between the two spaces.
